Thanksgiving week was the perfect opportunity for a little family escape, and this year we spent it in San Antonio with three families and our kids—all eager for a mix of fun, festive lights, and Texas holiday spirit. Our two main stops? SeaWorld San Antonio, glowing with Christmas magic, and the always beautiful San Antonio River Walk for a scenic boat tour.

SeaWorld San Antonio: Christmas at the Park

Walking into SeaWorld felt like stepping straight into a holiday movie set. Twinkling lights, Christmas trees in every corner, seasonal treats, cheerful music—everything was designed to put you instantly into the holiday mood. The kids loved it, and honestly, the adults had just as much fun.

SeaWorld’s shows were the highlight of the day:

  • Orca Encounter – Educational, impressive, and a favorite among the kids. They were amazed watching these incredible animals and learning about the conservation work behind the scenes.
  • Sea Lion & Otter Show – Fun, playful, and full of laughter—perfect for families.
  • Holiday Light Displays – Once the sun went down, the park lit up beautifully. The Christmas trees, tunnels of lights, and themed decorations created the perfect backdrop for photos.

We spent the whole day exploring, riding kid-friendly attractions, enjoying snacks, and letting the children take in every little detail of the park’s Christmas setup. It was crowded (as expected during Thanksgiving week), but still absolutely worth it.

San Antonio River Walk: A Peaceful Boat Tour Amid the Lights

The next stop on our Thanksgiving break was the iconic San Antonio River Walk, a place that always feels magical—especially during the holidays. With the Christmas lights hanging above the river and reflecting on the water, the whole area looked like a charming holiday postcard.

            Last Sunday, we set out for a family day in Sugar Land, one of the most vibrant and family-friendly suburbs of Houston. Our mini escape was filled with good food, a little shopping, and a sweet twist at the end—everything we needed to wrap up the weekend on a high note!

            We started the day exploring Sugar Land’s charming streets and shopping centers. The atmosphere was laid-back but lively, with plenty of shops and cafes to explore. It’s the kind of place where families walk together, friends catch up over coffee, and every corner has something new to discover.

            Lunch at “Fish City Grill“

            When lunchtime rolled around, we headed to Fish City Grill, a cozy seafood restaurant located right in the heart of Sugar Land. The welcoming ambiance and friendly staff immediately made us feel at home.

            But the real highlight? The food. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. From crispy fried catfish to savory shrimp tacos, every bite reminded us why Gulf Coast seafood is something special. Even the kids found something to enjoy—always a win in our book!

            A Cool Finish at “Morelia Ice Cream Paletas“

            To end our outing on a sweet note, we walked over to Morelia Ice Cream Paletas, just a short drive away. If you haven’t tried their paletas yet, you’re in for a treat. These are not your average popsicles—they’re handcrafted Mexican-style ice creams with a variety of flavors and toppings to choose from.

            We tried fruity flavors dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with cookie crumbs. It was a fun and unique dessert experience that both adults and kids loved.

            Sugar Land once again proved to be a perfect day-trip destination for families. Great food, relaxed shopping, and unique dessert spots—what more could we ask for on a Sunday?

            Weekend Escape to Corpus Christi: A Family Road Trip from College Station

            Sometimes, the best way to recharge is to hit the road. Last weekend, we packed our beach bags, loaded up the cars, and headed south for a two-day family getaway in Corpus Christi! 🚗☀️

            Two families, two kids, and a beach Airbnb — it was the perfect recipe for sun, laughter, and some unforgettable Texas memories. Here’s how our trip unfolded, stop by stop:

            College Station → Brenham → Luling → Victoria → Corpus Christi

            ☕ Stop 1: Brenham, TX
            Our first stop was the charming town of Brenham, known for its small-town vibe and — of course — Blue Bell Ice Cream! We grabbed our ice cream and let the kids enjoy a quick run around the historic downtown area. The murals and old buildings make it a great photo spot, too.

            🛢️ Stop 2: Luling, TX
            Next up: Luling, home of the famous Watermelon Thump Festival and a must-visit for its quirky downtown. Of course, we couldn’t pass through without stopping at City Market — one of Texas’ iconic BBQ spots. We had some mouthwatering brisket that was absolutely worth the wait! 🍖🔥

            🌿 Stop 3: Victoria, TX
            By now, the kids were dozing off in the backseat. But in Victoria, we made one last refresh stop and walked briefly in Riverside Park, one of the largest urban parks in Texas. The breeze under the tall oaks was just what we needed.

            🏖️ Destination: Corpus Christi, TX
            Finally, Corpus Christi greeted us with salty air and warm winds! We checked into our Airbnb just a few blocks from the beach. The rest of the weekend was all about sandcastles, barbecues, and chasing waves with the kids. 🌅

            From Padre Island National Seashore to a quick stop at the Texas State Aquarium, we made the most of every minute. The kids loved it, and so did we.

            Among the hardest hit was the area near Hunt, Texas, where multiple summer camps were impacted—including Camp Mystic, a girls’ camp located along the river. Search and rescue efforts have been ongoing, and sadly, there have been reports of lives lost and people still missing.

            Our thoughts are with all families and communities affected by this tragic event.

            This natural disaster serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly flash flooding can escalate and how important it is to remain prepared at all times—especially in flood-prone areas.
