Daily Comfort Strategies for a Balanced Life in Texas

What strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?

At Texas Life, we believe comfort starts with the little things. From keeping our living spaces clutter-free and cozy, to taking breaks outside to enjoy the Texas sun—even for just a few minutes—it all adds up. We also stick to simple routines: morning coffee, staying hydrated, and keeping in touch with family and friends. Whether it’s lighting a favorite candle, playing soft music while working, or planning weekend getaways across the Lone Star State, we prioritize small joys that make everyday life more peaceful.

What Defines a Great Teacher

What makes a teacher great?

A great teacher inspires curiosity, makes learning feel meaningful, and genuinely cares about their students’ growth. They adapt to different learning styles, create a supportive environment, and encourage students to think critically — not just memorize. What truly sets them apart is their ability to connect, listen, and leave a lasting impact beyond the classroom.

Climate Change: A Growing Threat to Our Future

What are you most worried about for the future?

I’m most worried about climate change. It’s already affecting the planet in serious ways — rising temperatures, extreme weather, melting ice, and sea level rise are just the beginning. It threatens our food and water security, damages ecosystems, and puts millions at risk of displacement. While there are promising solutions like renewable energy and global cooperation, I’m concerned that action might not come fast enough.

Severe Flooding in Kerr County: A Reminder to Stay Alert and Prepared

Over the July 4th weekend, devastating flash floods struck Kerr County and surrounding parts of the Texas Hill Country, causing widespread destruction and heartbreak. Intense rainfall led to the rapid rise of the Guadalupe River, affecting homes, camps, and communities across the region.

Among the hardest hit was the area near Hunt, Texas, where multiple summer camps were impacted—including Camp Mystic, a girls’ camp located along the river. Search and rescue efforts have been ongoing, and sadly, there have been reports of lives lost and people still missing.

Our thoughts are with all families and communities affected by this tragic event.

This natural disaster serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly flash flooding can escalate and how important it is to remain prepared at all times—especially in flood-prone areas.

Areas Most Affected:

Kerr County, especially along the Guadalupe River Surrounding communities in the Hill Country Riverfront summer camps and rural residential areas.

If You’re in a Flood-Prone Area, Please Take the Following Steps:

Stay informed: Monitor official weather alerts and emergency updates from local authorities. Avoid flooded roads and low-lying areas: Never walk or drive through moving water. Turn around, don’t drown. Prepare an emergency kit: Include essentials such as water, flashlights, medications, non-perishable food, and copies of important documents. Have an evacuation plan: Know your safest routes and leave early if flooding is possible. Check on others: Help neighbors, especially the elderly or those with limited mobility.

As Texans, we are resilient—and in times of crisis, we come together. Let’s support one another, stay informed, and advocate for improved safety measures across our communities.

Stay safe and aware!

Celebrating the 4th of July

Everything’s bigger in Texas — and that includes our celebrations! As fireworks light up the sky and flags wave proudly, the Lone Star State knows how to honor America’s birthday in style.

From backyard barbecues and small-town parades to live music and lakeside fireworks, Independence Day in Texas is a perfect blend of tradition, community, and fun. Whether you’re grilling brisket, floating the river, or just enjoying sweet tea on the porch, there’s no better time to celebrate the freedom we all share.

Top Ways Texans Celebrate the 4th:

  • Fireworks shows in towns like College Station, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas
  • Family picnics with smoked meats and Texas-sized sides
  • Community parades featuring vintage cars, marching bands, and lots of red, white, and blue
  • Country music festivals and outdoor concerts
  • A good ol’ float down the river or a dip in a Texas lake

As we celebrate this day of freedom and unity, let’s also remember the values that bring us together — resilience, community, and the spirit of independence.

Happy 4th of July, y’all!

Stay safe, stay proud, and enjoy every moment under the Texas sky.

Behind the Blog: What Texas Life Really Looks Like

You see the posts, the photos, the stories. But what happens before we hit publish?

Welcome behind the scenes of Texas Life Blog — where daily moments, cultural discoveries, and real-life reflections come together to create something meaningful.

This blog isn’t powered by an office full of editors or a big media team. It’s built from early-morning coffee ideas, nap-time writing sessions, and spontaneous snapshots from life in College Station and beyond.

☕ Where It All Begins

Our blog posts often start the way most Texas days do — with coffee in hand and a mind full of stories. Sometimes it’s a memory from last weekend’s farmer’s market. Other times, it’s a lesson learned while navigating family life in a new country.

📸 The Unfiltered Process

We don’t script every word or plan every photo. A lot of our content comes from real-life inspiration — a friendly chat at a local park, a sunset walk through the neighborhood, or a small cultural surprise that makes us pause and say, “We should share this.”

💡 Why We Write

At the heart of it all is a simple goal:
To connect.
With other families, students, newcomers, locals, and anyone curious about life in Texas.

We write to document, to reflect, and to help others feel a little more seen and a little less alone.

So whether you’re here for tips, curiosity, or just a break from your day —
Thank you for being part of our Texas Life.

Let’s keep exploring together.

Sustainably Yours: Small Choices, Big Impact

Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

Absolutely—sustainability starts in the small, everyday choices.

Each morning, I open the windows before turning on the AC. I keep a reusable water bottle by my side (decorated with Texas-themed stickers, of course), and I’ve gotten pretty good at saying no to single-use plastics—straws, bags, packaging.

We compost veggie scraps, repurpose jars into organizers, and shop local when we can—farmers’ markets are not just more sustainable, they’re more fun too.

I also make a conscious effort to design and create with less waste: digital first, minimal printing, and always rethinking before reordering.

Raising a little one has made me even more aware—because every small action today adds up to the world she’ll grow up in tomorrow. ♻️🌎

Rooted in Routine: A Day in the Life, Texas Style

What are your daily habits?

My days usually begin with sunlight gently spilling across the Texas sky—and the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the kitchen. I like to start slow, sipping my coffee while flipping through a design sketch or jotting down ideas that came to me overnight.

From there, it’s a dance between pixels and plants. I balance screen time with soul time—working on blog posts, editing photos, or sketching new layouts, but always taking little breaks to step outside, feel the breeze, or check on our tiny herb garden.

Midday means a stretch break, sometimes a walk under the big Texas sky, and usually a second cup of coffee (because creativity runs on caffeine).

Evenings are for unplugging: a homemade meal, and sometimes just watching the sunset in silence. Every day ends with a journal entry or a quick note about something that made me smile.

They’re small rituals, but they keep me grounded—and inspired. 🌞🌿✏️

Brisket

What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?

Definitely Texas-style smoked brisket. Slow-cooked for hours, perfectly tender, with that smoky bark and juicy flavor — it was pure barbecue perfection. In Texas, brisket isn’t just food; it’s a way of life.
