A Spring Break Getaway

Spring Break is always a great opportunity to take a short trip, especially with friends and family. Last week, we organized a small getaway with more than ten people, including several families with children. Our destination was a beautiful lake house we rented through Airbnb in Point Blank, Texas, located right along the Trinity River.

It turned out to be a very friendly and relaxing 2-night, 3-day Spring Break escape.

Day 1 – Hiking at Sam Houston National Forest

On the first day, we started our trip with a visit to the Lone Star Hiking Trail in Sam Houston National Forest.

We planned a short picnic and an easy hike along the trail. The weather was perfect—sunny but comfortable—and the trail was very enjoyable. One of the best parts was that the trail was also very suitable for children. The kids could walk easily and enjoy nature without difficulty.

After spending time hiking and relaxing in the forest, we headed to our Airbnb lake house in Point Blank later in the afternoon.

Once we arrived and checked in, the fun continued in the backyard. The kids played different games together, including an Easter egg hunt and light racket ball games. It was the perfect way for them to burn some energy after the drive.

In the evening, we gathered for dinner while watching the sunset over the lake. Sitting together, enjoying good food and conversation with friends, made the first day of the trip very special.

Day 2 – A Day at Lake Livingston State Park

The next morning, we drove to Lake Livingston State Park, which is located not far from where we stayed.

We spent most of the day near the lake. The children played by the water, explored the park area, and enjoyed the open space. Meanwhile, the adults relaxed, walked around the park, and enjoyed the peaceful lake views.

Of course, no park day is complete without food. We had a picnic by the lake and took our time enjoying the day. The calm atmosphere, fresh air, and wide open spaces made it a perfect place for families.

After a full day outdoors, we went into town for dinner and then returned to our lake house for the night.

Day 3 – A Fun Stop in Tomball

On our final day, we enjoyed breakfast at the house and then checked out of our Airbnb. We were very happy with the lake house and the overall experience.

Before heading back home, we made one more stop in Tomball, Texas at a place called Once Upon a Cowboy.

This indoor play space is not very large, but it is perfect for children around 3–5 years old. The kids had a lot of fun with different activities including a small train ride, ball games, a dino-cowboy themed play area, and a small theatre stage for imaginative play.

It was a great final activity before everyone went their separate ways and returned home.

Final Thoughts

This Spring Break trip turned out to be a very friendly and memorable weekend getaway. Spending time together in nature, watching the sunset by the lake, and seeing the kids enjoy every moment made the trip truly special.

Sometimes, you don’t have to travel far to create great memories. A short trip with good friends, a comfortable lake house, and beautiful Texas nature can be more than enough.

And for families with young kids, this route—Sam Houston National Forest, Lake Livingston, and Tomball—is definitely worth considering for a relaxing weekend escape.
